Our Committee

Meet the people behind the tour…

Our Mission

The Holiday Homes Tour Committee is comprised of community volunteers. We strive to include homes that represent Herndon's diverse cultural backgrounds, period aesthetics, and architectural styles in those we include each year in the tour. We share a passion for cultivating community bonds, serving our community in other civic and nonprofit organizations, and connecting these same organizations to the Holiday Homes Tour event as docents.

We proudly provide proceeds of the tour each year to the missions and charities sponsored by each participating organization. This year we are working in partnership with Arts Herndon to make this event possible. Together we are passionate about our entire community connecting and celebrating winter holiday cheer!

Message from the Co-Chairs

We are so very thankful, as always, for the graciousness of friends and neighbors to open up their homes for the holidays. This year took us a bit longer than normal to find all of our tour homes with so many of our lovely neighbors building and renovating with the recovery of the supply chain. Our homeowners include public service members of our town, such as Mayor Olem and Board member Stephanie Frye, three families who recently finished significant redesigns and renovations, and a young family in a brand-new home built on historic farmland.

We know that there are some who enjoy walking the tour (the town is only so large), but this year it is especially walkable. Four of the homes are centered near residential Spring Street with the Arts Herndon rest stop and Arts Barn Music bonus space just a couple blocks away. You will want to drive to Vacation Place, but otherwise, if you wish, you will be able to park once and walk around downtown, perhaps even making a day of it with lunch or refreshments at a local downtown business and staying for the tree lighting in the square after the tour. We believe that the walkability and the diverse range of homes in different styles and sizes exemplify the essence of a close-knit community with a small-town charm, setting the perfect tone for the holiday spirit.

Each year our army of volunteers secure and prepare the homes, and recruit local businesses to chip in with financial support, flowers, food, and beverage. Every year, our docents welcome more than 500 visitors who enthusiastically share their enjoyable experiences, the engaging conversations they had, and the creative inspiration they gleaned from the home decor. The atmosphere is consistently festive, and it brings warmth to our hearts as winter approaches. We are truly grateful for the joy you bring to this day.

Thank you to all of you for sharing your holidays with us. Enjoy!
