Renovated History

Impressive historic charm.

The Home of Jordan & Melanie Tatum
Docented by The Herndon Fortnightly Club

The Tatum’s moved into their home at 637 Oak Street in 2020 after living in Reston, Virginia for several years. They were looking for a unique home with lots of character and fell in love with the property in downtown Herndon.

Built in 1904, 637 Oak St is Historic House #4 in Herndon. The interior of the home underwent a large renovation before Jordan and Melanie purchased it. Since moving in Jordan and Melanie have continued to update the property inside and out, making various cosmetic updates internally and updating the landscaping around the property.

Despite the various updates there is still plenty of historic charm woven throughout the home. In decoration and design, Melanie and Jordan have carefully sought to preserve the historic nature of this beautiful house. Much of the decor is from local antique and thrift stores (Shoutout to The Closet & Roaches in the Attic in downtown Herndon!). As you tour the home be on the look out for some of the unique historic touches. The hardware on many of the doors (knobs, keyholes, hinges, and trim) and windows (custom trim, sash cords, rippled poured glass) is original. Of the three main fireplaces in the home only one is active, but you will notice the now covered holes for the wood burning stoves that were once throughout the house and in the bedrooms. The grand wooden staircase in the home is particularly impressive. Lastly, the corner hutch in the first floor master is also an original from the home, and one of Jordan and Melanie’s favorites. We hope you enjoy!
