The Home of Mayor Sheila Olem
Docented by The Herndon Womans’ Club

Built in 2001, this home was constructed on the last empty lot on Bowers Lane. Sheila Olem had contacted Ray Guier of Cumberland Custom Homes to build her home after seeing his own home on Locust Street, across from Herndon Middle School, during a Herndon Holiday Homes Tour.

This home can best be described as traditional with touches of modern architecture. The interior of the home has a mixture of custom-built furniture, treasured antiques, mid-century modern family pieces as well as an extensive collection of art and memorabilia. Sheila's unique sense of style blends all of these individual items together in a personalized fashion.

The main floor features an office with a portrait of Sheila painted by a local artist as well as a rendering of Sheila's beloved mother, Gracie. The great room boasts the majority of sentimental family pieces.

Although it is not on tour, the large yard contains extensive hardscape, a Koi pond and mature landscaping with many native plants.
